(GATTINARA – VERCELLI) In the wines of Travaglini Gattinara the Piedmontese tradition and renewal are perceived. The grape variety is obviously Nebbiolo from which an excellent red wine such as Gattinara Riserva DOCG 2013 is produced.

Travaglini Gattinara’s History and Philosophy

Gattinara in the province of Vercelli , is located in the southern end of Valsesia in Piedmont , on the slopes of the suggestive chain of Monte Rosa . This area extends the lands of the Nebbiolo grape locally called Spanna, a word derived from spy, from which the prestigious DOCG Gattinara is obtained , a red wine considered a pearl of the world wine scene and a history that goes back thousands of years, so much so that sources would attest that the name derives from Catuli Araossia Ara di Catullo.

And among producers of this excellence, the Cantaglione Travaglini , family-run, is a prestigious reference, born in 1958 by the will of Arturo Travaglini , it was then inherited by his son Giancarlo , to then be currently managed by his granddaughter Cinzia and her husband winemaker, agronomist Massimo Collauto.

The wines of Travaglini Gattinara

The 59 company hectares, of which 49 are vines, on which the main Nebbiolo vines grown in Guyot rest, are between 6 and 45 years old and are characterized by land located at 400 m above sea level, tending to be rocky, with the presence of granite, acids and rich in ferrous minerals and where the climate is dry and windy, with large temperature changes and with a south-west exposure.

The work in the cellar is followed not only by Massimo, but also by the oenologist Sergio Molino, promoter of the Nebolé project, a wine born from rigorous research applied to the bunch of Nebbiolo grapes, in the first decade of 2000 and which has brought a renewal in tradition Piedmontese Nebbiolo Spumante. The processing and vinification techniques in the cellar follow the great Piedmontese tradition and experience. The wines produced, in fact, express very particular characteristics, with incredible mineral notes. Qualities recognized by professionals of the caliber of Robert Parker and by events such as Wine Spectator and Decanter, as well as by prestigious national and international guides and magazines.

We cannot fail to underline the distinctive brand of Cantina Travaglini, the famous bottle with a sinuous shape, with which the most prestigious wines are bottled, from which you can serve the wine directly in the glass even if structured and aged, a work of art designed by Giancarlo Travaglini as early as 1958. The proposed line fully expresses all the complexity of this land, which for centuries has given truly prestigious wines. Travaglini’s Gattinara is a wine that expresses the skill with which it is created, with its unmistakable organoleptic characteristic that makes it unique.
