The La Scolca estate is located in Gavi in the province of Alessandria in Piedmont , where the important agricultural activity of vine cultivation and wine production has made Gavi and its realities a leader in the world. To contribute to the growth of this territory, the activity of Tenuta La Scolca was among the most important and far-sighted realities, as well as can be seen from the meaning of the name La Scolca, which derives from the ancient toponym Sfurca, “to look far”. Just over 100 years have passed – 1917-2019 – from the birth of the company. A long century of provident investments, which from the founder the great-grandfather of the current owner Giorgio Soldati, are going to constitute that exponential growth of the company, which has now reached the fifth generation and which today sees Chiara Soldati , in the company now since 1995, alongside the father Giorgio , also founder of theGavi Consortium and promoter of the Doc in 1974 and of the Docg in 1998 . A reality that of La Scolca in constant ascent, conquering over time foreign markets , and entering right into the firmament of the great wines present in the tables that count.

The wines of La Scolca

The 60 hectares of vineyards are located in the best areas of Rovereto and Gavi, and enjoy a microclimate and excellent exposure, on clay soils, ideal conditions for a complete ripening of the grapes, which is the indispensable premise for good wine. Here lies the company’s philosophy “to obtain an excellent wine you need excellent grapes”. The family’s preference is for white wines and mainly French sparkling wines, and it is precisely from this preference that the intuition was born to uproot the red berry and plant Cortese, to create a wine that came as close as possible to Chablis, and then to sparkle it later. An attitude seen with skepticism, but which over time has borne fruit, creating wines with an aristocratic personality, mineral and intense. But all this is the result of a union between earth, man and ancient traditions, which through the different workers, from the vineyard to the cellar are best expressed. In this regard, the new winery was recently inaugurated, which also has an internal analysis laboratory, designed to constantly monitor the grapes before vinification and the quality of the wines at all times of production.

In conclusion, the proposed line, between wines and sparkling wines, has exceeded 10 references, among which noteworthy are the black label, “G Soldati G” , a surprising wine, or the Gavi dei Gavi, noble, with a strong personality and great character. Not to forget the D’Antan born as a passing of the baton between Chiara and her father Giorgio, a trait d’union between past and future.
