Silvio Mendini is the founder of Podere Montale, a young Tuscan winery that produces an excellent Montecucco red wine from the Sangiovese vineyard.

Podere Montale’s History and Terroir

The Montecucco area produces the homonymous denomination recognized in 1998, the Montecucco Docg , but which since 2011 also includes Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG , a niche that was born in the enchanting Tuscan hills, where the Val D ‘Orcia gives way to the slopes of Mount Amiata , immersed in the DOCG of Brunello di Montalcino and Morellino di Scansano . A wine of a second-born terroir, compared to Brunello, but which over the years is growing in identity and prestige. A volcanic territory where the main characteristic of the wine is a marked acidity and an interesting minerality.

Podere Montale is located here in Poggioferro di Seggiano, about 20 km from Montalcino, a young company, perfectly integrated and very concrete. A property of 200 hectares, of which about 20 are planted with vines and surrounded by 50 hectares of forest at 600m asl and where the vineyards are cultivated with integrated agriculture systems, thanks to the respect for the biodiversity typical of natural balance, where the land enjoys perfectly both of the climate, of the exposure, but above all of the ownership of an extinct volcano like Mount Amiata.

The proposed line consists of very interesting wines, the reds: Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG, a wine obtained from the grapes of the company vineyards located in the highest part and with south / west exposure, remains an intense and pleasant, persistent wine, La Casetta Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG Riserva, Rosso IGT Toscano, Peposo Rosso IGT Toscano a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with the most spicy characteristic as is emphasized by the label, the Cinque Vigne Maremma Toscana, and a white: I Maremmani Bianco IGT Tuscan. All wines of great character, identity and strength.

It should be noted that Podere Montale is also a tourist facility, with apartments that can host visitors and has a tasting room and organizes guided tours that allow you to have a direct relationship with the countryside. In addition, the company produces an excellent Seggiano DOP extra virgin olive oil, which comes from a historic centuries-old olive grove of Olivastra Seggianese, located about 300 meters above sea level.
