(MONTALCINO – SIENA) Palazzo is a family-run farm in Montalcino that produces Tuscan red wines of great traditional and authentic character, including the famous Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino.
The history of Palazzo wines

Among the Brunello di Montalcino producers who have conquered the markets in Italy and abroad, we must necessarily include the Palazzo di Cosimo Loia and Antonella Palazzo estate. After an experience as restaurateurs in Great Britain, in the early 1980s the decision was made to return to Italy, so it was that the couple and their children, Angelo and Elia, settled in Montalcino.
The Palazzo Agricultural Company began producing wines in 1986, initially devoting itself to simpler and more immediate wines to finally get to produce the first Brunello di Montalcino in 1995, obtained from almost 10-year-old vines.
Over the years, all members of the Loia-Palazzo family have been involved in the production of wine, each with a specific role. To date, the company has 4 hectares and an annual production of around 22 thousand bottles.
Terroir of Palazzo wines

The vineyards from which the wines of Palazzo are born are 4 hectares, located on the south-east side of Montalcino, at an altitude of 320 m.s.l.m. and soils of Eocene origin, rich in marl and limestone, particularly flourishing in mineral micronutrients.
Ideal conditions to give the wines a great polyphenolic outfit, depth and complexity, especially red wines.
These characteristics of the terroir, particularly favorable, give the wines of Palazzo a rare elegance, character and potential for evolution.
The Philosophy of Palazzo Wines

Respect for the environment and biodiversity are certainly two key elements in the production of Palazzo wines. In fact, the company has begun to take care of the vineyards following the principles of Integrated Agriculture, using only organic fertilizers and pesticides for organic cultivation and from 2020 the company switches entirely to Organic Agriculture.
In addition, the Palazzo farm has been recognized with the Agriqualità mark, a recognition for companies that operate with particular respect for the territory and for the consumer.
Of great interest among the structures of the Palazzo farm we find the Podere, the ancient eighteenth-century farmhouse that houses, among others, the cellars and wine-making rooms. A sensational testimony of how innovation and tradition can coexist creating a dialectic between past and present.
Wines of Palazzo
Among the wines of the Palazzo, both Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino show the classic aromas and flavors of Sangiovese from this part of Montalcino, thanks also to the particular soil, rich in limestone mixed with skeleton consisting of marl and alberese schists, in which they are cultivated.
The result is a grape full of great strength, cared for by the rigorous work in the vineyards, in particular by Elia, a qualified sommelier, and by the advice of the talented wine consultant, Fabrizio Ciufoli.
And, perhaps thanks to the experience abroad, the line of Palazzo wines also includes a high-level supertuscan wine obtained from the blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon: Alcineo.
The wines of Palazzo are characterized by great character and combine great olfactory finesse, flavor and richness on the palate. A further testimony of the extraordinary enological potential of the Montalcino terroir.
