(MAGLIANO IN TOSCANA – GROSSETO) Fattoria di Magliano is a remarkable organic winery nestled in the heart of Tuscany’s Maremma region.

History of Fattoria di Magliano

Fattoria di Magliano, nestled in the breathtakingly unspoiled Maremma region of Tuscany, is the realization of a dream for entrepreneur Agostino Lenci from Lucca. This pristine corner of Maremma, untouched by human development, captivated Lenci, leading him to embark on a winemaking adventure in 1996.

The estate spans 97 hectares, with 48 hectares dedicated to vineyards, predominantly planted with Sangiovese and Vermentino, alongside international varieties like Syrah and Cabernet Franc, which thrive in this Mediterranean climate. Renowned enologist Graziana Grassini oversees the meticulous winemaking processes, steering the estate’s successful transition to organic viticulture.

Today, Fattoria di Magliano produces approximately 300,000 bottles annually.

Terroir of Fattoria di Magliano Wines

The estate sits at an altitude of around 300 meters, benefiting from soils with a medium texture, rich in sand and skeletal materials, moderate in clay, and free of silt. These characteristics ensure excellent water absorption, root penetration, and soil aeration. An innovative drip irrigation system is employed to manage water resources effectively, especially in challenging years.

Coupled with abundant sunshine and cooling sea breezes, this terroir produces wines of remarkable balance and complexity, whether red or white. The estate embraced organic viticulture in 2011, achieving full certification for all its wines in 2016.

Philosophy of Fattoria di Magliano Wines

Fattoria di Magliano champions a winemaking philosophy rooted in territorial authenticity and environmental respect. Vineyards are cultivated according to organic farming principles, with many wines fermenting using indigenous yeasts. Additives are minimized to let the terroir’s essence shine through.

Vinification involves temperature-controlled fermentations in stainless steel and concrete tanks, followed by prolonged lees contact for whites and barrel aging for flagship reds. This approach masterfully blends tradition and modern technology, yielding wines that reflect the region with elegance and refinement.

Wines of Fattoria di Magliano

The wines produced by Fattoria di Magliano represent an authentic expression of Maremma, with a strong and genuine character. Among their main wines is “Heba” Morellino di Scansano, a crisp and fragrant wine that reflects the beauty of the Maremma countryside. Fermented in steel and aged in traditional concrete vats, it stands out for its floral and fruity aromas and its fresh, soft palate.

The winery also offers Poggio Bestiale, an intense and full-bodied Tuscan red made from a Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, aged in new barriques for at least 14 months. Other noteworthy wines include Perenzo Syrah Maremma Toscana DOC and Altizi Cabernet Franc Maremma Toscana DOC, both aged for 12–14 months in medium-toast Allier oak barriques, offering refined interpretations of Syrah and Cabernet with a Mediterranean twist.

Other highlights from the winery include Brissaia, a white wine made from Ansonica grapes; Pagliatura, crafted from Vermentino; and Sinarra, a 100% Sangiovese wine made without added sulfites. This diverse range demonstrates the estate’s skill in working with various grapes and styles while maintaining deep respect for tradition and terroir.

Their wines pay homage to this unique land and its millennia-old history, combining respect for tradition with an eye toward innovation. Fattoria di Magliano continues to skillfully produce wines that capture the essence of Tuscany’s Maremma with authenticity and character.
