Cantina Bolzano

Cantina Bolzano

(BOLZANO) Cantina Bolzano stands out in the production of white and red wines, especially in Lagrein, Moscato, Pinot Bianco, as well as for the excellent Sauvignon and Merlot. At the top of the Lagrein Riserva Taber and Lagrein Riserva Prestige lines.

Cantina Bolzano’s History and Philosophy

The Producers Cellar of Bolzano is, as they usually define themselves, “young and forward-looking”. Its foundation, in fact, is very recent, 2001, and immediately stood out for quality and dedication in the work. Its position in the Bolzano area is somewhat unusual in terms of climate. Located on a plain and surrounded very closely by the Alps, at a latitude where you would expect, in addition to the predictable winter snows, a summer coolness, this topography instead creates surprising hot temperatures in the summer.

All this creates ideal growing conditions for the Lagrein grape , an indigenous variety that needs plenty of heat to mature well and lose the bitterness that wines sometimes suffer from. This, in fact, is the classic area of South Tyrol for the valuable Lagrein , a land where wine and tradition blend perfectly, a fact now gone down in history. However, this statement does not make prestigious production a foregone conclusion, and the wineries are well aware of this. Only hard work, continuous study and passion can reward.

The wines of Cantina Bolzano

This is why a talented wine technician, Stephan Filippi , has been called , and thanks to him the cellars can boast a series of excellent wines, obviously based on Lagrein , with at the top the  Lagrein Riserva Taber , a strong and persistent red, extremely fresh and elegant, and it’s the Lagrein Riserva Prestige . Given the peculiarity of the climate, all the wines have a great personality, which is also found in other varieties: the Cabernet Riserva Mumelter, the Merlot Collection Otto Graf Huyn , Sauvignon Mock , Chardonnay , Gewürztraminer Kleinstein , Pinot Blanc Dellago and aLagrein-Merlot blend called Mauritius
