(MONFORTE D’ALBA – CUNEO) In the area around Alba this winery has been producing fine Italian wines since 1995. The passion of the owners has led to inimitable creations of Barolo, Dolcetto and Barbera red wines and among the white wines Chardonnay and Sauvignon.
Podere Ruggeri Corsini’s History and Philosophy
A good grape is certainly an excellent base for a good wine, and this elementary axiom becomes even more applicable when the level of quality is raised: from good to very good, from very good to excellent, and from excellent to exceptional. And good grapes are not simply a question of place: it is certainly an advantage to enjoy appropriate altitude, warm and sunny exposure, regular breezes and a balanced soil.
Working well in the vineyards can, however, compensate for a whole series of theoretical disadvantages, and many vineyards that supply grapes for famous wines are located near other hypothetically superior soils, but with a production that is not even comparable.
At Podere Ruggeri Corsini the grapes are not a problem at all: the producer, Nicola Argamante and Loredana Addari are both agronomists and expert winemakers, and the former, while gradually building his small estate piece by piece, slowly adding portions of land as soon as they became available, had a successful career as an agronomist consultant, working for a series of excellent wine estates in various parts of Piedmont. But their possessions are, from now on, the main focus of the couple and have grown to over 10 hectares per vine, a property that is vast in respect for only two people who wish to carry out a significant part of the work with their own hands.
The wines of Podere Ruggeri Corsini
The varieties of grapes chosen for cultivation are largely the classics of the Alba area . Without detracting from the others, however, the white of the house adds Chardonnay and Sauvignon to the local Arneis, and among the reds there are both a Pinot Noir and a more innovative Albarossa , a cross between Barbera and Nebbiolo di Dronero created in the 1930s by Giovanni Dalmasso, one of the most significant figures of twentieth-century Italian enology.
There is no shortage of Dolcetto and Barbera , nor could they, the last one offered in two versions, one to drink young and the other, aged in barrels, very powerful, so much so as to deserve its name, Armujan , a tribute to the Russian ancestors of Argamante. The apex of the wines of the line could only have been Barolo , and there are two: a more international offer aged in barrels and the amiable, classic San Pietro , rightly aged in cask.
