 The Boatti family in Torricella Verzate produces some of the best known red and white wines from Lombardy. Among these Nature Pinot Noir Classic Method, the Oltrepò Rosso Podere La Borla and the Cabernet Sauvignon Aplomb.

L ‘ Oltrepò Pavese , the territory that extends from the south of the Po towards Liguria and the Mediterranean Sea, it is certainly the most important appellation of Lombardy with 13,000 hectares of vineyards and 800 000 hectoliters of wine produced annually. It also has the advantage of being very close to Milan and its metropolitan area, the engine of industrial development in Italy after the Second World War and, importantly, a market that shows great interest in wines with personality and well-made. In theory, Oltrepò should be a thriving viticultural area with many important estates and with wines known and appreciated in Lombardy and not.

It should, but it isn’t. In fact, although the area can boast many historical estates that have produced excellent wine since the end of the 19th century, the proximity to Milan, unfortunately, stimulated mass production and ruthless competition which made Oltrepò identify as an area with a mainly offer table wine, not something to be taken seriously.

Fortunately, there are significant exceptions, and one of the most noteworthy is the Boatti family of the Monsupello estate in Torricella Verzate . The family actually started their work in Oliva Gessi in the late 19th century, but the current property was purchased in 1914 and has remained the main source for the wide and excellent offer of wines produced since then.

La gamma è inaspettatamente vasta, un fatto per niente scontato dal momento che l’Oltrepò è principalmente conosciuto come una fonte di spicco per un ottimo Pinot Noir, vini frizzanti e ottime uve bordolesi. Dai 50 ettari di vigneti di proprietà c’è davvero l’imbarazzo della scelta: il Pinot Nero barricato 3309, l’Oltrepò Rosso Podere La Borla, lo Chardonnay Senso invecchiato in botte, le bollicine di Pinot Nero Metodo Classico. And, just to demonstrate the potential of the Médoc grape , there is Cabernet Sauvignon Aplomb .
