The Lisini winery, dating back to the 1500s, boasts excellent quality wines such as the Brunello di Montalcino red wine, Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Ugolaia obtained from Sangiovese vineyards.

Lisini’s History and Philosophy

A house with a very ancient history, dating back to the 1500s, however the viticultural activity began in the first half of the 1900s, and then made a significant leap in quality towards the 1960s. The Lisini are in fact an illustrious family of Sienese merchants who in 1850 became related to the Clementi di Montalcino family . It was thanks to the marriage between Lodovico Lisini , lawyer and owner of lands in Chianti (precisely in Radda in Chianti ), and Francesca Clementi that the Lisini became owners of all the lands owned by the Clementi as early as 1500. From this marriage Alessandro Lisini was born, mayor of Siena at the beginning of the century, historical and prestigious numismatic.

Agriculture was by no means neglected, however, and Alessandro Lisini’s son, Ludovico , took an active interest in his properties in Sant’Angelo in Colle , selecting sites of the caliber of Le Cappannelle and Ugolaia for the Sangiovese plantation . This part of Montalcino boasts splendid soils, excellent exposures and ideal heights for the great Tuscan varieties, really suitable for the plantation of superb quality soft grapes, among the best in the whole denomination.

It was Ludovico’s daughter , Elina , who demonstrated this hypothesis; she, together with other pioneering families, such as Biondi-Santi , Colombini Cinelli and Costanti , were the first to produce the important bottles that made Brunello di Montalcino a truly exceptional wine. The rest is history, as the almost 2000 hectares of Brunello now in production can testify.

The wines of Lisini

Elina Lisini was also deeply aware of the need to pay more attention to quality. And after the first phase of production that lasted about 25 years, (at a time when professionalism was taking its first steps in Italian viticulture and oenology) the 70s and the following decades saw a completely different approach, one in which awareness of the potential of Sangiovese as a first-class grape worldwide, became the basis for new ambitions and goals. An exceptional quality was in fact already present in the wines of 1983 and 1985 and has never been exhausted in the whole collection: Rosso di Montalcino , Brunello di Montalcino and Brunello Montalcino Ugolaia, the last from a cru that defended Ludovico Lisini’s exceptional foresight .
