Fattoria Varramista’s History and Terroir

Fattoria Varramista is located in Tuscany, in Montopoli Val d’Arno in the province of Pisa. The magnificent Villa, with its Italian garden, dominates the entire estate, which extends over 400 hectares. Peace and silence are combined with the hilly landscape, where the vineyards ripen their fruits and the woods are lost from sight. For this company, which we could define as the Italian Downton Abbey, due to its historical and economic evolution over time, it is necessary to stop for a moment and tell its glorious history.

In fact, the Villa dates back to 1589 and was conceived as a Florentine outpost against the Pisan domination. The Villa was designed by Bartolomeo Ammannati on commission from the Capponi family; already owner of the estate since 1406, when Gino di Neri Capponi, in command of the Florentine militias, received it as a gift for the victory over the Republic of Pisa. Needless to say, the glories that have seen the Estate protagonist over the centuries, hosting intellectuals of all ages, well-known faces of the Italian and international artistic, cultural and business scene. In the mid-1900s, two other important families will be the protagonists of this story: the Piaggio family, well-known motorcycle manufacturers, who moved the family business and the Agnelli family from Genoa to Pontedera, thanks to the marriage between Antonella Bechi Piaggio and Umberto Agnelli celebrated in 1959 in Varramista.

The Philosophy of the wines of Fattoria Varramista
