Ciarcia Massimo

Ciarcia Massimo

(BIBBONE – LIVORNO) Massimo Ciarcia is one of the best known wine producers in the denomination of Terratico di Bibbona DOC. In its line of organic wines, Poggio Regio, 100% Merlot, the fragrant Vermentino Le Carraie and Capella Rosso, which combines Tuscan grapes with Cabernet Sauvignon and Mistobosco is absolutely worth mentioning.

Ciarcia Massimo’s History and Philosophy

The area around Bibbona has always been dedicated to agriculture, as evidenced by the name of the Doc, ” Terratico di Bibbona“, Established in 2006, which derives from an ancient word used since the early 1500s.” Terratico “meant” rent “of the land that was granted to peasant families. Terratico was not paid in cash, but a production quota was sold. Initially, however, the area was not well known for its wines, but all this changed when the first important wines from nearby Bolgheri began to emerge and, since many of these first producers were also interested in the vineyards of nearby Bibbona, it soon became obvious that the same potential also existed in Bibbona, or was even higher there. The climate of the area is uniform, but Bibbona has a different soil, with more clay and stone, both useful for the structure of the wines.

To date, one of the best known interpreters of the denomination to which these wines belong, Terratico di Bibbona, is Massimo Ciarcia , an organic company born in 1995. Massimo Ciarcia was born in one of these families of small owners who populated the town, he joined the traditions of his homeland with modern techniques that he and his wine consultant, the talented Leonardo Conti, by now expert in the maritime areas Bibbonesi, Bolgheresi, Elba island and other Tuscan realities, put into practice. On the one hand there is the will to carry out a genuine project as a goal of life and work; on the other there is the organic aspect which translates into an eco-sustainable and environmentally friendly approach, both in the vineyard and in the cellar.

The wines of Ciarcia Massimo

The grape is the one that gave its name to this part of Tuscany, but Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo have also been added, especially for wines aimed at a first pleasant drink. The results could not have been happier: an entire line of well-made wines with a great personality. An excellent introduction is the fragrant Vermentino, Doc Terratico di Bibbona “Le Carraie”, also followed by Rosé, pure rosé pleasure. More structured, but full and sweet at the same time, are Cappella Rosso, which combines Tuscan grapes with Cabernet Sauvignon and Mistobosco, Doc Terratico di Bibbona Rosso with, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Sangiovese, and a slight passage in barriques for a few months. The line is completed by the succulent and smooth Poggio Regio, all Merlot which highlights its potential in different tastings around the world.
