Cascina Sòt

(MONFORTE D’ALBA – CUNEO) In the heart of the Langhe, the Sanso family, owners of Cascina Sòt, produce Barolo, Barbera d’Alba Superiore and Dolcetto d’Alba red wines.

Cascina Sòt’s History and Philosophy

Passion moves the world, this is what you breathe at Cascina Sòt . The desire to affirm that the new generation, with commitment and extreme professionalism, are able to transmit is primary, and this has meant that the history of this winery, combined with innovation, is giving feedback for growth, for quality and quantity in the truly remarkable wine production.
Cascina Sot stands with its charm, in a panoramic position, in one of the most important wine production areas in Italy, the Langhe, and specifically in the province of Cuneo, in the town of Bussia S. Pietro in Monforte d’Alba, which it is part of the 11 production municipalities of Barolo.

The history of these lands is contained in the books of medieval history, famous indeed for the events of the Cathars. The Cathar movement that just arose was slowly investing part of Piedmont and Monforte, the latter being equipped with a mighty castle, had become the heretical center of the whole territory, consequently a threat to the Church. The story is known, it is important, because it brings us to the knowledge of events that change the lives of individuals, and the history of the Sanso family is no different in terms of charm and concreteness.

It is said that originally the first generation of the Sansos were the sharecroppers of these lands, Maria and Giuseppe, the grandparents of the current young owner Maurizio Sanso , assisted and supported by their parents Silvana and Leonardo and by Lorena the tireless sister . It was the far-sighted bet of the grandparents who with the purchase of the land, directing the production solely to viticulture, that the Cascina Sòt began with great determination of the protagonists, to become that reality, which today after three generations, has made this winery a small , but a concrete reality of excellence in wine production. It was the attention to natural resources that kicked off this new production phase, by controlling the temperatures during the winemaking phase: such as the low temperature of the water from the ancient well, combined with the winter cold. The cultivation of the vineyards of the winery, some of which located among the most prestigious cru of Barolo, as we said, is designed inside so that in a unique environment it allows the visitor to follow the entire vinification process, with technologies and techniques innovative, thanks to the preparation that Maurizio Sanso expertly puts at the service of all the complex elaboration of the production phase.

The wines of Cascina Sòt

The best care is dedicated to the vine plants, collecting precious and straightforward grapes, which in the wine-making phase, through processing, allow to maximize the typical characteristics of each grape variety, which make the wine capable of enhancing the taste and aromas of this wonderful land of origin. And this is how in 2008 the production of labels in one’s own name was born, in which we see Maurizio dealing with winemaking himself. From 2016 Barbera Superiore and Dolcetto will be the first products of this new era, in this 2018 it will be the year of Nascetta and 2019 will feature the new entry of Barolo Bricco San Pietro.
