Cascina Chicco

(CANALE – CUNEO) Marco and Enrico Faccenda carry on the family winery in Canale in Piedmont, making red wines for Barolo, Barbaresco and Roero. In particular, with the two choices of Barolo, Castelleto and the Ginestra Reserve, you enter the realm of true excellence.

Cascina Chicco’s History and Philosophy

The wine areas around Alba have historically been identified on both banks of the Tanaro river , but the area with the greatest prestige and fame has always been the Langa , on the right side of the river, known for the famous Barolo and Barbaresco . In recent times, however, even the sandy soils of the left bank (the Roero ) have been able to arouse much interest from the public of enthusiasts, highlighting the beautiful characteristics of these wines.

Cascina Chicco is one of the companies operating in this particular context: the activity started by the two brothers Marco and Enrico Faccenda in Canale in the 90s, who started this important wine project after studying at the wine school. Several acquisitions of vineyards in the most suitable areas of Roero: Anterisio in Canale , Granera Alta in Castellinaldo , Valmaggiore in Vezza d’Alba . Recently the two Faccenda brothers have ambitiously decided to expand the properties in the Barolo production area, in two of the most important and reference crus of the municipality of Monforte d’Alba , namely Castelletto and Ginestra.

The wines of Cascina Chicco

The production is therefore wide and eclectic: for whites the main grape variety is Arneis , autochthonous now known and appreciated all over the world, produced in the Anterisio area in 130,000 bottles. The choice of the classic method from 100% Nebbiolo grapes is interesting , in the white and rosé version, with permanence on the lees for 36 months and zero dosage disgorgement. The reds are all children of individual vineyards, trying to focus on the characteristics of the terroir for each, also showing a lot of versatility in fermentation and aging. There are two beers: Barbera d’Alba Granera Alta , fruity and with an easy approach, while Barbera d’Alba Bric Loirait has a longer and therefore more structured refinement. Nebbiolo in the Roero has different expressions: the Mompissano vine in Canale , recognizable for the elegance and finesse of the tannin, the Roero Montespinato , with a beautiful and elegant drink, ending with the Roero Riserva Valmaggiore , the son of one of the reference cru of the whole area.

The last two entrances were the Barolo Rocche di Castelletto and the Ginestra Reserve , which allowed Cascina Chicco to enter the Olympus of excellence.
