Abbona Marziano

(DOGLIANI – CUNEO) The Abbona Marzano di Dogliani winery, near Alba in Piedmont, produces excellent red and white wines from Nebbiolo, Barolo, Barbera and Viognier. Papà Celso and San Luigi are the top wines, based on Dolcetto d’Alba.

Abbona Marziano’s History & Terroir

Dogliani , a small town south of Alba , in the Langhe, is well known as the birthplace of Luigi Einaudi, a famous economist and statesman, a politician with skill in both theory and practice. Skill that he tested after the Second World War, when he first headed the Bank of Italy and then became President of the Republic (1948-1955). He is a wine producer, as Dogliani has historically been an optimal point for quality Dolcetto , and Einaudi still produces wine that competes very well with the best wines of the appellation.

Dogliani, however, has, like many other areas of Italy, experienced a new awareness of the viticultural potential of its vineyards, in particular since 1990. And among the new leaders in his area can certainly be listed Marziano Abbona, a still young man of spirit and vigorous in his work despite being a seasoned veteran, veteran of many decades of crops.

Philosophy of Abbona Marziano wines

Over the years its properties have expanded widely, to the point that it is now the owner of about 50 hectares of vineyards, many of which in excellent, sunny, well-exposed positions and planted with grapes appropriate for the bottles that have found devoted customers in many markets.

Abbona Marziano’s Wines

The most interesting part of Abbona’s career, however, is not only based on these extremely refined examples of Dolcetto , first and most important San Luigi and Papà Celso , but on many other widely acclaimed wines, always produced by him. Abbona felt very early that it would be a mistake for Dogliani to limit himself to just one wine, and his Barbera d’Alba Rinaldi showed that his hand is skilled with grapes: 40,000 high level bottles. The same can be said of Cinerino , produced by Viognier , a white wine that shows that the colder parts of the Langhe are extremely suitable for white grapes. But it was with his decision to invest in grapesNebbiolo , and in the Barolo production area in particular, which Abbona has shown to himself that he is not only an excellent producer, but also a talented investor. Terlo Ravera , Pressenda and Cerviano are all excellent bottles, and the vineyards that produce them are literally worth their weight in gold.
