Tenuta Monteti ‘s History and Terroir
Southern Maremma is a wild land, which from the hills to the sea intoxicates with its scents and lets itself be dominated by the most unspoiled nature, that of the Mediterranean scrub. And Capalbio, with its history and its land, is a worthy representative. It was here that in 1998 Paolo Baratta together with his wife Gemma Bracco, then built what is today a signature of the absolute excellence in the production of reds, with an international mold but with an absolutely Mediterranean soul. Since 2010 the company has been run by her daughter Eva together with her husband Javier Pedrazzini and is at the forefront of the environmental sustainability landscape. In addition to the flag wine, Monteti, two other labels are produced: Caburnio and TM Rosé.
The Philosophy of the wines of Tenuta Monteti
The vineyards chosen were Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Alicante Bouschet and not the traditional Sangiovese. This challenge, in a land still unexplored from the point of view of high quality wine production, which was collected and carried out by Paolo and Gemma with the advice from the beginning of the oenologist Carlo Ferrini, thus sensing the potential for a production of wines capable of combining character and refinement.
From that first intuition, Eva and Javier have developed a research path that makes Tenuta Monteti today a reality organized masterfully and in continuous growth.
The estate is located 15 km from the sea, at an altitude of 145m above sea level and the 28 hectares of vines are divided into 4 parts, with 5 different red grape varieties, which enjoy all the natural characteristics to mature safely, protected by the hill. The cultivation takes place in full respect of environmental sustainability and in this regard the “VIVA” protocol of the Ministry of the Environment is followed. The treatments are reduced to a minimum and through a control unit, which monitors the state of the plants and the soil, the situation is always under control, but there are many treatments in the processing of the raw material, from pruning, to the collection and manual selection of the grapes for winemaking in the cellar.
A winery – finished in 2004, the year of the first vintage produced, then released on the market in 2007 – which is set in the surrounding landscape and presents all the equipment for state-of-the-art winemaking, with gravity processing and winemaking method and parcel maturation. Following the agronomic part is Roberto Rossi from the beginning, the winemaker Christian Coco in the cellar in collaboration with the consultant winemaker, still today, Carlo Ferrini.
The wines of Tenuta Monteti
The proposed line is minimalist, but of great value, with the flagship wine, the elegant and austere Monteti and the Caburnio a complex wine and at the same time endowed with freshness and excellent drinkability, and finally the last born, the captivating and with a Provencal appeal TM Rosé, wines that express all the harmony with an ancient land, that of Tuscany.
