Roberto Scubla

(IPPLIS – UDINE) Roberto Scubla is a Friulian company that produces excellent whites, Malvasia, Friulano, Pinot Blanc, and excellent red wines, Refosco, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The line also includes excellent blends.

Roberto Scubla’s History and Philosophy

The Friuli-Venezia Giulia is now known for many decades as a source of first choice for quality white wines. This is mainly due to its climate, relatively cold for Italy, and regularly refreshed during the period of growth of plants by breezes that blow on the earth from the sea and the mountainous regions of northern Italy.

The alternation of daytime heat and evening and night freshness is ideal for the production of the fresh and fragrant wines that have made the region famous. This is reflected in the production statistics: in terms of wines of the appellation, the production of whites is five times higher than the reds.

The region, however, also has significant potential for high quality wines, and the classic area for their production is the quadrilateral formed by Manzano, Buttrio, Rosazzo and Premariacco . The last of these is the most northerly and it is therefore logical that the town produces excellent red and white wines. And, in recent years, the main house of the town has undoubtedly been that of Roberto Scubla , whose wide and varied line testifies to the fact that there is no reason why this part of Friuli cannot show great versatility.

Roberto Scubla himself is an interesting figure: in 1991, he decided to leave his promising career in the bank to throw himself into a new business that would include his true passion for life, wine. The company began on a small scale, and still covers just 12 hectares of vineyards. But the quality has always been high, and it has grown in the new millennium thanks to the excellent wine consultant, Gianni Menotti , a gentle spirit with which Scubla immediately found himself on the same wavelength.

The wines of Roberto Scubla

Together they have produced, and continue to produce, elegant and refined wines, from the classic grapes of the region: Sauvignon (a specialty of Menotti), Malvasia, Friulano, and Pinot Bianco, among the whites, and Refosco, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, between the Reds. The line also includes well-studied and highly successful blends: Pomédes (Pinot Bianco, Friulano, Riesling) and Rosso Scuro (Refosco and Merlot). The line is completed by a superb dessert wine, Cràtis, produced in limited numbers from withered Verduzzo grapes, truly adorable.
