(LA MORRA – CUNEO) A winery that has been able to change the collective imagination of Piedmontese wines produced in the La Morra area. Barolo is the most refined and representative wine offer of the company, in particular the red wine Barolo Conca stands out.
Revello Fratelli’s History and Philosophy
La Morra , once one of the least known towns in the Barolo production area , has emerged in the last 30 years as a primary source for an excellent Nebbiolo- based wine . It also generally presents a distinctive style too: in a denomination wines should necessarily have a large amount of strength and muscle, this Barolo indicates that it can also be fragrant, elegant, fashionable, soft to the touch, broad, but balanced and also seductive.
The reasons for this particular oddity are simple to point out and explain. The vineyards are at a relatively high height, considerably higher than those of the nearby towns. The climate, of course, is fresher and the soil, more humid and fertile, tends to give the bunches more aroma than power, more elegance than pure intensity. In a period when it was believed that Barolo should be a robust and concentrated wine, the wines of La Morra were not very understood and accepted and there was little demand for them or for the grapes from its vineyards.
All this has changed since the mid-80s and now the town can boast a number of over 90 different Barolo bottlers, one of the highest in the entire DOCG area. Among the main protagonists in this almost revolutionary change of public appreciation are Carlo and Lorenzo Revello , whose vineyards are located in the strategic area of La Morra, Annunziata.
The wines of Revello Fratelli
The property consists of over 8 hectares of vineyards and includes an important number of vineyards which have shown an undisputed ability to produce excellent Nebbiolo grapes. This is by no means the whole story, however, given that Revello Dolcetto is regularly a lovable very fruity bottle, and the Barbera selection , Ciabot du Re , barrel aged, rich and sweet, is one of the most indicative bottles, which they have profoundly transformed these wines to be conceived as a drink from taverns to a high level bottle for wine bars.
Making a refined Barolo, however, is certainly the first and main objective of a Barolo producer, whether he lives in La Morra or elsewhere, and this house regularly offers this product, with a series of impeccable crus that simply demonstrate how Barolo can be different in its excellence: Giachini, Gattera, Conca, and Rocche dell’Annunziata. Since 2013 a new label has been added to the range, Barolo Cerretta, from the municipality of Serralunga, a vineyard owned by Enzo’s father-in-law.
In 2016 the brothers Lorenzo and Carlo decided to divide the company to encourage the insertion of their children in the companies. Lorenzo is the current owner of the historic company, together with his wife Luciana and their children, Simone and Elena.
