Nera Vini’s History and Philosophy

The Casa Vinicola Nera Vini is a historic winery that for over 70 years has been producing quality wine in Chiuro, located in the middle Valtellina on the right bank of the Adda river in the province of Sondrio. Describe Valtellina and how to describe fairytale landscapes, where everything tastes of serenity, white peaks, green fields and where the natural balance is uncontaminated and where you can find enological excellence envied in the world. Among these excellences, the Nera Vini company, which is headed by Pietro Nera, is a testimony to this, which saw in 1982 the sons Stefano and Simone Nera, continue the family tradition by establishing, not far from the headquarters, the Agricultural Company Caven Camuna, thus becoming a landmark in the area.

BLACK WINES 3It is a heroic viticulture, the one that is most carried out for this company, so defined in this case, because it is practiced on particularly inaccessible territories. The processing conditions of the company vines are extreme for reasons related to the soil, climate and altitude. The vineyards in this area of Valtellina are equipped on terraces and it is one of the largest areas of Italian Alpine viticulture, about 2500 km of dry stone walls that support the vineyards to be maintained.

The company’s vineyards are the result of a selection of clones and meticulous care, capable of producing excellent grapes and offering the best raw material. The main grape is Nebbiolo, but also followed by the native Rossola, Pignola, and the international Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, in addition to the Manzoni Cross with which the reds are created, which result in powerful, velvety wines suitable for long aging.

BLACK WINES2The Nera cellars have a total capacity of about 40,000 hectoliters of which about 10,000 consist of oak barrels, barriques and tonneaux. The manufacturing processes are carried out with extreme care and method, where competence and seriousness respect the most ancient wine tradition of this area.
