Livio Felluga

(BRAZZANO – GORIZIA) Livio Felluga is a leading company in Friuli Venezia Giulia thanks to its well-made wines. Terre Alte, a barricaded white wine that combines Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon and Sossò, a blend of Refosco, Merlot and Pignolo red wine are worthy of note.

Livio Felluga’s History and Philosophy

Livio Felluga had a disruptive effect on Friuli wines . Although the region in which he founded the company that has remained one of the most important names in Friuli was only the second step in his fully lived life: he was born and raised in Istria, at the time still under the empire Austro Hungarian. In the 1920s, together with his father, he moved to the coast in Grado to expand the trade in family wines. But it was only the first step in Friuli, in the meantime the dream of producing his wine grew, becoming a passion, and in the 1950s he founded his winery in Brazzano near Cormons , thus starting the expansion that has continued over the years and decades.

The company now enjoys almost 160 hectares of vineyards. There Livio Felluga formed a family and raised his four children, who are now all active participants in the work of the cellar. Most of the estates are located in the Colli Orientali del Friuli appellation , and here the complete range of wines from the region, some varieties, some blends are produced and offered to markets all over the world. A long series of different vines seem to obtain good results in the cellars thanks to the work of Andrea Felluga and Viorel Flocea together with the Tuscan consultant Stefano Chioccioli.

The wines of Livio Felluga

Varietal wines tend to be fermented and aged in stainless steel, something that is reflected in the fragrance and character of Sauvignon and Friulano , while Illivio , a well-calculated blend of Pinot Blanc , Chardonnnay , and Picolit , is perceived as oak. The Colli Orientali DOC are a reliable source of good red wine, as demonstrated by Sossó , a blend of Refosco , Merlot and Pignolo . But the most famous and most prestigious wine of the line is undoubtedly Terre Alte , a barricade that unites Friulanoand Pinot Blanc with Sauvignon . It can also be quickly challenged, however, by the Abbazia di Rosazzo white wine , a similar blend produced in the vineyards of the historic, namesake abbey.
