(CORTONA) I Vicini is a company located in Pietraia di Cortona. The winery is famous for the production of Laudario Cortona PDO wines, from the elegant Laudario Syrah to the more austere and bright Laudario Cabernet Sauvignon.
The history and terroir of I Vicini

The I Vicini company of the Antonioli family has its roots in Cortona, an enchanting Tuscan town, famous for its ancient remains and for the beauty of the places, so much so that it has become a film set for the filming of the film ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’ .
It all started in 1978 when an ancient ecclesiastical property was purchased in Cortona, built for its first part by the Capuchin Friars around 1200, and completed in 1500, to be subsequently renovated and enlarged by private individuals, who in 1694 transformed it from Original convent in civilian residence.
The winery and the vineyards, on the other hand, are located in Pietraia di Cortona, an area renowned for hosting some of the most famous wineries and vineyards in the Tuscan territory.
The philosophy of I Vicini

The Antonioli family, boasts an ancient tradition in viticulture and olive growing, already in Veneto and Abruzzo, the Tuscan experience began in 2000, and after years of research and agronomic investigations, a farm of 20 hectares was identified and purchased. It contained those much sought-after qualities.
After gradually removing the old vines, unfortunately now exhausted, just as gradually four vines have been replanted which now mark their production. We are talking about Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot Nero and Sangiovese grosso, red grape varieties of great character, in a combination that sees the inevitable presence of the traditional Sangiovese and that of grapes with an international trait.
The terroir, located at 310 meters above sea level, benefits from the proximity to Lake Trasimeno (at 250 meters above sea level) which gives an almost perfect microclimate for the production of elegant and high quality wines. It is precisely the proximity to Lake Trasimeno, to the farms of ancient and well-known families of winemakers that inspired the name ‘I Vicini’.
The wines of I Vicini

The wines generally mature one year in steel, then they pass from 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels of 10-25HL, medium toasting, to be released on the market in the fourth year and not before six months of aging in the bottle.
The Laudario Cortona PDO line, suited to aging, satisfies all needs, ranging from the elegant Laudario Syrah, to the more austere and luminous Laudario Cabernet Sauvignon, to veer towards the intense and balsamic Laudario Merlot and the fresher and more classic Alterio Sangiovese .
The etymology ‘Laudario’ was borrowed from the oldest collection of Sacred Music in the vernacular dating back to the 13th century, preserved in the Diocesan Museum of Cortona.
However, there is also an IGT line named ‘Arengario’, more immediately usable, free from the passage in wood, created to maximize the intrinsic aromatic varietal characteristics of the vines. In this case, the wines are offered to the public after two years From the harvest.
The etymology ‘Arengario’ was borrowed from the loggia of the Palazzo della Signoria in Florence and from the loggia of Cortona, both placed at the base of two 1200 palaces called ‘Parlero’ or ‘Arengario’, from which the tribunes spoke and harangued the people .
