Francesco Rinaldi

(BAROLO – CUNEO) In the heart of the Barolo appellation, the Francesco Rinaldi winery, which has now been carried out with a feminine touch, has stood out for its excellent red wines from the Piedmontese tradition: Barolo, Barbaresco, Dolchetto d’Alba and Barbera d’Alba.

Francesco Rinaldi’s History and Philosophy

The delimitation of a viticulture area, what is commonly defined as a denomination , is a complicated matter, especially when the vineyards in question produce one of the wines of the highest quality and fame of the entire nation. As you can imagine, the area and the producers who are left out feel offended, but sometimes the same resentment is also felt by those included in it, when they believe that the delimitation has been too generous, including sub-zones i whose wines are not at the same standard as the best plots.

This is exactly what happened in Barolo after the first delimitation in 1927: the cellars in the two towns of Barolo and Castiglione Falletto , the most central and historical area of Barolo, rebelled against the borders that had been established, stating that their area was the only and only one that could be considered worthy of the production of a true and authentic Barolo. Checking the validity of this statement is obviously an impossible task, but it is a fact that the town of Barolo was among the first to boast houses with a proven history of wine production. And among these are the cellars of Francesco Rinaldi , the direct descendant of the Giovanni Rinaldi company, founded way back in 1870.

The wines of Francesco Rinaldi

His work took on its own identity in 1922, after the division of the property among Giovanni Rinaldi’s heirs and took the name of Francesco Rinaldi , the youngest of his children. It was then succeeded by his children, Luciano and Michele . To date, the company is carefully and passionately directed with a feminine touch, by Paola and Piera to be precise. What has not changed are the exceptional properties of the vineyards that the company has the great fortune to possess, precisely in the very heart of the denomination, whose recognition, as has already been pointed out, was requested in 1927 by the producers in the town of Barolo: excellent plots in Barolo for theDolcetto ; in Barolo, La Morra for Barbera ; and in Barolo ( Sarmassa and Vignane ), La Morra ( Rocche dell’Annunziata ) and Castiglione Falletto for the regular Barolo. And, above all, Brunate and Cannubi , two of the largest and most historic vineyards of all the selections of Barolo with a single vine, understandably of a traditional character, but modern in their purity of expression of the great Nebbiolo grape .
