Dosio Vigneti’s History and Philosophy

The elevated vineyards have become very fashionable in many of the major areas of production of wine of excellence in Italy, an important change of opinion compared to just twenty years ago. At the time, when power and concentration were not only the main ones, but virtually the only ones, criteria of excellence of a wine, the fresh, especially in the evening or at night, was considered a handicap, to be avoided in the purchase of the vineyards. All of this has changed in more recent years. Partly due to climate change, higher temperatures during the harvest season made it easier to ripen grapes in locations considered prohibitively high.

And better viticulture, which is now a consolidated practice in the areas where quality wine is produced, has made an important contribution. But the concept of quality has changed, fragrance and expressiveness of flavor and aroma, roundness of tannins, balance, and focus, are now more important than mere strength and intensity. These considerations come to mind even more thinking about the Dosio winery, in the town of La Morra . Founded in 1974 by Beppe Dosio on a pre-existing eighteenth-century structure, it enjoys, in all senses, high-level vineyards. Above there are only the vineyards of Vergne , within the nearby town of Barolo.

The wines of Dosio Vigneti

Logically enough, a fruity, but also broad, Dolcetto, one of the best examples in its denomination, has long been the house specialty. The Barbera d’Alba is offered in two versions, and the Barbera Superiore aged in barrel, certainly does not lack body, fullness and roundness in support of aromas and refined flavors and pungent. But a winery in La Morra is judged, rightly, on the basis of the quality of its Barolo, and even here the company has achieved triumphant success, even during the cooler years when the ripening of the grapes would seem to be more difficult. But not here, thanks to the efforts and skill of the agronomist and winemaker Marco Dotta, who previously perfected his talent in Barbaresco . TheBarolo Fossati , in fact, both in regular bottling and in the Reserve, is systematically one of the best wines, a real guarantee. The new partners, Gianfranco and Massimo Lanci , are entirely willing to collaborate to ensure the continuity of the company.
