The history and philosophy of Diego Morra

The Diego Morra winery is located in the middle of one of the most prestigious crus in the Barolo area: Monvigliero, within the territory of Verduno in the province of Cuneo. In addition to being a small village located in the heart of the Langhe, Verduno has a certain history for the tradition of Piedmontese wines and especially for one of the most imported wines in Italy: Barolo. In fact, the first experiments of innovation in the vinification of Barolo were carried out in the Castello di Verduno, at the time purchased in 1837 by the Congregation of the Opera di Carità of Turin, by the King Carlo Alberto of Savoy. general Paolo Francesco Staglieno.

Cascina Mosca, as it was called and is still called today, the operational headquarters of this family-run company, now in its third generation, founded in the mid-1900s by Domenico and then passed to Antonio, and currently managed by Diego, who with great care and meticulousness takes care of the approximately 30 hectares of vineyards located in the best Cru of Verduno between La Morra and Roddi, and with another 20 hectares of owned hazelnut groves.

The company vineyards rest on land with excellent exposure and microclimates that allow the perfect ripening of the grapes assisted by a production philosophy based on respect for natural times. A company that boasts significant experience in the processing of grapes, forged over time, thanks to a tradition handed down through the generations, with a wine production in the cellar, which interprets and enhances these results giving the wines the character of the different vineyards, accompanying them to express the best of yourself.

An important moment for Diego Morra was 2018, when the extension works of the cellar were made, where a room for tastings was also created and the possibility of hosting and creating events and guided tours was opened, increasing and further diversifying production and potential for the wine tourism sector.

Diego Morra Wines

The line offered reflects the typical Piedmontese production, where Nebbiolo is the master, which sees Barolo Monvigliero among the protagonists in the labels signed by Diego Morra, an austere, elegant wine, rich in aromas, which however does not detract from the spicy and spicy Verduno Pelaverga energetic, but there are only two of the wines that characterize this production. And we cannot fail to mention the co-stars of this enological scene, the typical wines that Diego Morra masterfully produces: Barbera d’Alba, Dolcetto d’Alba and Langhe Nebbiolo and finally the fresh and smooth Rosato di Nebbiolo in purity and the bright and delicately scented Chardonnay white wine.
