{"id":7354,"date":"2018-06-18T13:55:44","date_gmt":"2018-06-18T13:55:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.italysfinestwines.it\/colle-santa-mustiola\/"},"modified":"2021-03-24T15:38:27","modified_gmt":"2021-03-24T15:38:27","slug":"colle-santa-mustiola","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.italysfinestwines.it\/en\/colle-santa-mustiola\/","title":{"rendered":"Colle Santa Mustiola"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">(CHIUSI &#8211; SIENA) Fabio Cenni, the owner of Colle Santa Mustiola in Chiusi, produces red Sangiovese-based wines. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The famous grape of Tuscany is exhaled to the maximum as in Poggio ai Chiari red wine.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Colle Santa Mustiola&#8217;s History and Terroir<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Chiusi<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> is a town on the railway between Florence and Rome. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">A rather important link, but not one that gave particular notoriety to the town, with the exception of the many tombs found in the area, confirming that, millennia ago, there was an Etruscan community. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">More well-known, just to the west, is the thermal center of Chianciano Terme, once very popular for thermal treatments and, even more so, <strong>Montepulciano<\/strong>, the city that attracts visitors from all over the world to see the important Renaissance architecture of Michelozzo , Sangallo the elder, and Vignola. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">And to drink an excellent <\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Vino Nobile di Montepulciano<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> based on <\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Sangiovese<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> , for centuries considered one of the major red wines of Tuscany and therefore of Italy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">As in many other warmer parts of Tuscany, in Chiusi, however, the grapes are grown and the wine produced for millennia. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Local production, however, was rarely bottled, but rather brought outside the town to be mixed with wines produced in other parts of the region. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Often of less structure and fragrance, but produced in areas with a more prestigious name. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">What was missing was a local leader, a company that managed to make a name for itself and for the territory in which it operated. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">For over two decades, however, the name has been found. This is the <strong>Colle di Santa Mustiola<\/strong> winery of <strong>Fabio Cenni<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The wines of Colle Santa Mustiola<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Autochthonous, with a family with thick roots in Chiusi, Cenni is nevertheless a man of the world, but not one who believes that cosmopolitanism shows itself by mimicking local customs and manners. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">He preferred to base his work on a simple conviction: <\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Sangiovese is the great Tuscan grape<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> and it is the duty of the producer to demonstrate it with wines of unquestionable level, creating his own version of a wine of class and excellence. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">And, in three different versions, showing that this belief cannot be discussed. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The <\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Vignaflavia<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> , an absolutely valid and last but not least, <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">boasts a ros\u00e9, unusual in character but of truly excellent quality<\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">. <\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Poggio ai Chiari<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">, simply a great wine. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">And one who discovers another of Cenni&#8217;s many virtues: patience. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The wines are not released until they are ready.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A curiosity: to enter the <strong>historic cellar of Colle Santa Mustiola<\/strong> you have to go through a <strong>tomb of Etruscan origin<\/strong>.
