Colle Santa Mustiola’s History and Terroir
\n<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Chiusi<\/span><\/span><\/strong> is a town on the railway between Florence and Rome. <\/span>A rather important link, but not one that gave particular notoriety to the town, with the exception of the many tombs found in the area, confirming that, millennia ago, there was an Etruscan community. <\/span>More well-known, just to the west, is the thermal center of Chianciano Terme, once very popular for thermal treatments and, even more so, Montepulciano<\/strong>, the city that attracts visitors from all over the world to see the important Renaissance architecture of Michelozzo , Sangallo the elder, and Vignola. <\/span>And to drink an excellent <\/span><\/span>Vino Nobile di Montepulciano<\/span><\/span><\/strong> based on <\/span><\/span>Sangiovese<\/span><\/span><\/strong> , for centuries considered one of the major red wines of Tuscany and therefore of Italy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As in many other warmer parts of Tuscany, in Chiusi, however, the grapes are grown and the wine produced for millennia. <\/span>Local production, however, was rarely bottled, but rather brought outside the town to be mixed with wines produced in other parts of the region. <\/span>Often of less structure and fragrance, but produced in areas with a more prestigious name. <\/span>What was missing was a local leader, a company that managed to make a name for itself and for the territory in which it operated. <\/span>For over two decades, however, the name has been found. This is the Colle di Santa Mustiola<\/strong> winery of Fabio Cenni<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The wines of Colle Santa Mustiola<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Autochthonous, with a family with thick roots in Chiusi, Cenni is nevertheless a man of the world, but not one who believes that cosmopolitanism shows itself by mimicking local customs and manners. <\/span>He preferred to base his work on a simple conviction: <\/span><\/span>Sangiovese is the great Tuscan grape<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and it is the duty of the producer to demonstrate it with wines of unquestionable level, creating his own version of a wine of class and excellence. <\/span>And, in three different versions, showing that this belief cannot be discussed. <\/span>The <\/span><\/span>Vignaflavia<\/span><\/span><\/strong> , an absolutely valid and last but not least, <\/span>boasts a ros\u00e9, unusual in character but of truly excellent quality<\/span>. <\/span><\/span>Poggio ai Chiari<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, simply a great wine. <\/span>And one who discovers another of Cenni’s many virtues: patience. <\/span>The wines are not released until they are ready.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A curiosity: to enter the historic cellar of Colle Santa Mustiola<\/strong> you have to go through a tomb of Etruscan origin<\/strong>. An experience within an experience, something that not all wineries can boast.<\/p>\n
