Livio Felluga’s History and Philosophy
<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Livio Felluga<\/span><\/span><\/strong> had a disruptive effect on <\/span><\/span>Friuli<\/span><\/span><\/strong> wines <\/span>. <\/span>Although the region in which he founded the company that has remained one of the most important names in Friuli was only the second step in his fully lived life: he was born and raised in Istria, at the time still under the empire Austro Hungarian. <\/span>In the 1920s, together with his father, he moved to the coast in Grado to expand the trade in family wines. <\/span>But it was only the first step in Friuli, in the meantime the dream of producing his wine grew, becoming a passion, and in the 1950s he founded his winery in <\/span><\/span>Brazzano<\/span><\/span><\/strong> near <\/span><\/span>Cormons<\/span><\/span><\/strong> , thus starting the expansion that has continued over the years and decades.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The company now enjoys almost 160 hectares of vineyards. <\/span>There Livio Felluga formed a family and raised his four children, who are now all active participants in the work of the cellar. <\/span>Most of the estates are located in the <\/span><\/span>Colli Orientali del Friuli<\/span><\/span><\/strong> appellation <\/span>, and here the complete range of wines from the region, some varieties, some blends are produced and offered to markets all over the world. <\/span>A long series of different vines seem to obtain good results in the cellars thanks to the work of <\/span><\/span>Andrea Felluga<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and <\/span><\/span>Viorel Flocea<\/span><\/span><\/strong> together with the Tuscan consultant <\/span><\/span>Stefano Chioccioli<\/span><\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The wines of Livio Felluga<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Varietal wines tend to be fermented and aged in stainless steel, something that is reflected in the fragrance and character of <\/span><\/span>Sauvignon<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and <\/span><\/span>Friulano<\/span><\/span><\/strong> , while <\/span><\/span>Illivio<\/span><\/span><\/strong> , a well-calculated blend of <\/span><\/span>Pinot Blanc<\/span><\/span><\/strong> , <\/span><\/span>Chardonnnay<\/span><\/span><\/strong> , and <\/span><\/span>Picolit<\/span><\/span><\/strong> , is perceived as oak. <\/span>The <\/span><\/span>Colli Orientali DOC<\/span><\/span><\/strong> are a reliable source of good red wine, as demonstrated by <\/span><\/span>Soss\u00f3<\/span><\/span><\/strong> , a blend of <\/span><\/span>Refosco<\/span><\/span><\/strong> , <\/span><\/span>Merlot<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and <\/span><\/span>Pignolo<\/span><\/span><\/strong> . <\/span>But the most famous and most prestigious wine of the line is undoubtedly <\/span><\/span>Terre Alte<\/span><\/span><\/strong> , a barricade that unites <\/span><\/span>Friulano<\/span><\/span><\/strong>and <\/span><\/span>Pinot Blanc<\/span><\/span><\/strong> with <\/span><\/span>Sauvignon<\/span><\/span><\/strong> . <\/span>It can also be quickly challenged, however, by the <\/span><\/span>Abbazia di Rosazzo<\/span><\/span><\/strong> white wine <\/span>, a similar blend produced in the vineyards of the historic, namesake abbey.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
